Tire Changer Assist Arms: Match the Helper Arm to the Machine
An assist arm can make stiff sidewalls and difficult beads much easier to control, but the hardware is not universal. Match the exact tire changer, series, mounting side and air requirements before choosing a retrofit arm or a machine with assist equipment already included.
An assist arm helps control the tire bead — it does not change the machine's basic size limits
A tire changer assist arm, helper arm or bead-press system applies controlled pressure to the sidewall or bead while the wheel turns. That can make stiff sidewalls, low-profile tires and some run-flat assemblies easier to mount and demount because the technician can keep the bead in the drop center without relying only on a tire bar and hand pressure.
It is still an accessory or machine feature, not a larger clamping table. The changer's published rim range, maximum tire diameter, maximum width, electrical supply and compressed-air requirements remain separate limits. An assist arm also does not prove that every run-flat tire is supported; the manufacturer still needs to publish that application or procedure.
First decide whether you need a retrofit arm or a machine that already includes one
Retrofit path
Add an arm to a compatible base machine
Atlas currently provides one of the clearest retrofit examples. Its 200/700 Series left-hand arm ATEATTC-LHA-FPD and the series-specific right-hand arms are sold separately for compatible Atlas tire changers.
Best fit: a shop that already owns a compatible machine and wants more bead control without replacing the complete changer.
Factory-equipped path
Choose a model with the helper system already built in
Coats Maxx 70/80/90, Coats RC 55, Hunter TCX helper-system models, Ranger R76ATR, R980DP and R80EX are examples where the assist hardware is part of the machine configuration rather than an accessory you should assume can be bolted onto any base model.
Best fit: a shop buying a new changer for frequent stiff-sidewall or difficult-tire work.

200 & 700 Series
ATEATTC-LHA-FPD — left-hand assist arm
Atlas says this pneumatic left-hand arm fits its 200 and 700 Series tire changers. It combines a pressing/pulling disk and pressing block arm and is intended to help with stiff-sidewall, low-profile and run-flat tires.
Check before ordering: the exact changer model, mounting space and whether a second/right-side arm is also needed for the tire mix.
200 Series swing-arm
ATEATTC-RHA-SA-FPD — right-hand assist arm
This right-hand arm is documented for Atlas 200 Series swing-arm changers. It includes a pressing/pulling disk and roller arm. Atlas also sells the 200 Series dual-arm package ATEATTC-DAA-SA-FPD, which combines the left and right assemblies.
Check before ordering: do not substitute the 700 Series right-hand arm simply because the hardware looks similar.
700 Series tilt-back
ATEATTC-RHA-FPD — right-hand assist arm
Atlas identifies this version for 700 Series tilt-back tire changers. Its controls let the technician position the arm and then apply pneumatic pressure to help move a stiff sidewall onto or off the rim.
Check before ordering: match the 700 Series/tilt-back requirement rather than the general words “right-hand assist arm.”
Atlas TC755 path
ATEATTC-HP1XLT-FPD — E-Z assist arm
Atlas specifically calls this 700 Series E-Z arm a match for the TC755. It combines a pressing/pulling disk, pressing block and roller on the right side. That makes it a more specific TC755 path than choosing an arm by appearance.
Check before ordering: whether the machine already has assist hardware and whether the intended configuration needs an additional arm.
Single-arm and dual-arm systems solve different levels of difficulty
A single helper arm can hold the upper bead down, press a stiff sidewall or help lift the lower bead. A second arm or roller can add control on the opposite side of the wheel, which is useful when the tire repeatedly climbs out of the drop center or when the shop handles difficult assemblies often.
That does not mean a dual-arm changer is automatically the better buy. If most work is ordinary passenger tires, the extra hardware can add cost and floor space without changing the normal jobs. If low-profile and stiff-sidewall tires are common, the difference can be much more meaningful.
Factory helper systems should be compared as part of the machine, not as a generic add-on
Coats Robo-Arm and RoboRoller
Coats uses the Robo-Arm to press the bead into the drop center and the RoboRoller on higher Maxx configurations for additional control. The current RC 55 also includes a Robo-Arm. Older Coats machines have retrofit paths, but the correct upgrade depends on the exact series.
Hunter bead-press systems
Hunter's TCX line uses different press-arm and multi-arm bead-press configurations by model. Its current accessory documentation separates a single bead press arm from multi-arm systems and identifies model-specific kits, so “Hunter assist arm” is still too broad for parts ordering.
Ranger single- and dual-tower assist
Ranger currently sells the R76ATR with a single assist tower and the R980DP/R80EX with dual-assist systems. For these machines, the assist equipment is part of the selected changer configuration rather than a reason to assume the R980XR can be upgraded into the same machine.
KATOOL dual-arm configurations
KATOOL publishes machines such as the KT-T830 and KT-T835 with dual assist arms. The arms are part of those configurations; a generic KATOOL arm listing without an exact model fit statement should not be treated as a confirmed retrofit.
Compressed air still matters after the arm fits mechanically
Most pneumatic assist arms depend on the changer's air system. A mechanically compatible arm can still perform poorly if the shop cannot supply the pressure and flow required by the machine and accessory together. Check the exact installation/manual requirements rather than assuming that a large compressor tank is enough.
Exact changer model and series: a 200 Series arm is not automatically a 700 Series arm.
Base machine configuration: confirm what assist hardware is already included.
Mounting side: left-hand, right-hand and dual-arm packages are not interchangeable descriptions.
Air requirements: verify the machine and accessory can be supplied correctly.
Actual tire workload: choose the arm because the shop needs more bead control, not because “dual assist” sounds more premium.
Compare the complete machine first
Make sure the changer still fits the wheels and tires you service
An assist arm can make difficult tires easier to handle, but it cannot fix an undersized clamping range, insufficient tire diameter capacity or the wrong shop utilities. Check the base machine first, then decide whether included or optional assist hardware is worth adding.
It applies controlled pressure to the tire bead or sidewall so the technician can keep the bead in the drop center and manage stiff or low-profile tires more easily during mounting and demounting.
Does an assist arm make any tire changer run-flat capable?
No. An assist arm can make stiff sidewalls easier to control, but run-flat suitability should come from the manufacturer’s published capability and procedures for the exact machine and configuration.
Can I add an Atlas assist arm to any Atlas tire changer?
No. Atlas publishes different arm families for different machine series. For example, ATEATTC-RHA-SA-FPD is for 200 Series swing-arm changers, while ATEATTC-RHA-FPD is for 700 Series tilt-back changers.
Is a dual assist arm always better than a single arm?
Not necessarily. Dual-arm systems provide more control for difficult tires, but a shop that mostly handles ordinary passenger tires may not need the extra hardware, cost or space.
